Vision
The Vision

The City of Lansing’s Grand River waterfront has seen limited and inconsistent development through the years. This is an opportunity, not a problem. In publicizing and creating an effective presence for the Lansing waterfront, it is important to develop and promote the Grand Vision while focusing on, and emphasizing the positives about the City of Lansing’s waterfront assets.

First and foremost, it must be clear that this is the new Lansing. The Grand Vision becomes the energy force/entity that propels Lansing into the 21st Century as a dynamic, livable Capital City. The Grand Vision captures all opportunities existing and future, respecting our legacy and history while identifying and absorbing or deflecting likely challenges and “negatives” common to any project.

Engaging interested citizens, businesses and organizations in a “dynamic partnership” provides critical elements for project success. This includes sustainability, pride and ownership by building constituency across all segments and throughout the community. Most important is that the message to taxpayers is that City is serious about promoting Lansing waterfront as an interesting, vital, scenic place to visit, relocate to, or launch their development project.

“Same ‘ol, Same ‘ol” is no longer acceptable for Central Michigan or the entire state for that matter. Innovative, out of the box strategies must emphasize the recreational opportunities, quality of life, excellent central location, development potential, and existing urban resources of the City of Lansing.
